You've got to love a great science teacher. All it takes is one amazing, dedicated teacher to influence a student to love science for the rest of their life.

Minor correction: Effective nuclear charge actually increases slightly as you move down a group on the periodic table due to increased diffusion of the core electrons. However, the distance between the electrons and nucleus increases as well as you move down the group, leading to a decrease in IONIZATION ENERGY. This accounts for the increasing reactivity of the alkali metals as atomic number increases.

2:07 he makes a mistake by saying “the formation of a hydronium ion” and “that makes the pool basic” it’s true sodium reacts with water to form a basic solution but it forms the hydroxide ion not a hydronium ion, that’s what is formed when an acid interacts with water

This the type of video to be randomly suggested after ten years.

My son got convicted of a felony explosives charge for doing what this professor is doing (potassium in water). So, kids, don't do this in California.

I didn’t really see, but Cesium usually comes in tubes filled with argon, because once it’s exposed to oxygen it will react
Therefore i don’t know how he pulled it off, because usually you’d have to smash the tube underwater so it won’t be exposed to oxygen before

This resembles a lecture in the school of Harry Potter. Howarts, Hogwarts, Hoghards, however it is written.

metal 2.1, 2.8.1, 2.8.8.1, 2.8.8.8.1, 2.8.8.8.8.1, 2.8.8.8.8.8.1, plus h20, to produce metal hydroxide and h positive. explosion occur because this group of metal is very active while react with h20 to generate friction spark with h positive

Cesium could be used in fiireworks that dont require a lighter to light just throw it in the water

Ayy I wish I had it like that. I would've thrown a large piece of Rubidium in that fountain
