I love the Minecraft Ancient City. It is very cool and mysterious! Since the first time I saw it, I wanted to restore the city and see how it used to be before the Sculk and Warden took over and ruined everything.

You mentioned something I love: The idea of the people spending the last weeks of their life ripping up carpets to mask their footsteps from the warden, sneaking around trying to scavenge what they can. I love it so much

Can you imagine a mod with a rare chance of coming across a non ruined city like this?? Maybe not villagers down there, but some sort of inhabitants? 😍 I'm in love. Great build!!

The ice box rooms kept meat frozen, they were used back in the day before freezers were a thing, can still find them in european ruins, you would put a decent amount of ice in there and due to to the design of the building and the vent sysem the cold air would cycle, thus keeping everything cold - to prevent rotting meat etc.

If anything, this makes the ancient city even more haunting, seeing how nice it looked and how fallen it is now

It’s crazy to see the transformations how the city was almost unrecogniseable because of the sculk, it’s actually really creepy how powerful the sculk is

the reason why ancient cities spawn close together, is because they mainly spawn under the 1.18 mountain biomes so you often find them bunched up under mountains.

thx for all the likes 😊

I think the “social area” that was covered in wool might have been a tent built by new explorers while exploring the ruined city

What if the wardens were the guardians of the ancient cities but got corrupted as the sculk invaded it?
They could've been a sort of golem!

Okay now hold on, the social space at 9:20 is so cool with all the wool around it... granted before the skulk they wouldn't have had the wool but after the skulk came they incased the area so they had a safe space to speak freely. Which is just such an amazing in universe detail to me.

I personally imagined that the ancient city bricks and structures were lighter in color and it became darker with time, moisture and stuff. But this is just another level, it looks so amazing!

I appreciate the practical design of this place like adding farms, access to water, etc. It really feels like a real city now, and the terraforming does a great job of showing it all off 👍

the wooden watch towers and "social spaces" with the campfires were presumably from the pillagers that explored the cities after they were abandoned, that is why you can see similarities and how the pillagers got special items like the totem of undying etc., they looted them from the ancient cities.

You're the first one I see that actually restore this instead of transform it into something more creepy. I really like how it looks tbh.

This is probably the best depiction of what the ancient cities would've looked like in their glory days. It really contrasts well and instead of the ruined hell that it once was has now been transformed and reinstated into this beautiful masterpiece. I definitely would use it as a living base because of its bright contrast and ease of accessibility. You nailed the center part of the city! Love the portal illusion and the way you managed to make this transformation possible!

I always felt like the Ancient Cities were populated by Dwarves before getting overrun with Sculk

the icebox was probably like a food storage place, and i can't help but notice you added magma blocks into the larger pool of the spa, which is based on a roman bath and the larger pool would be cool, or room temperature, rather than hot!

I have a theory: what if the roofs were mostly flat to purposely collect water for drinking? Any additional source of water is great for survival.

Beautiful work! I giggled thinking about maybe the “mysterious ruins” were places like a post office and DMV.

Before refrigerators, all of the ice was stored in a giant insulated cellar. They collected the ice in the winter, and used it throughout summer. If you needed ice for anything you just hopped down to the ice cellar.

I love your style here. You took the ancient city the way it seemed to be intended to look, and added your own spin on it without going over the top. I love watching you and your friends doing those multiplayer games too!
