I have several go To's for long runs because I need variety mostly for my mind. I have a lapped asphalt loop that accumulates 1200' of gain. Another where it's a trail with a downhill focus(used often for local races). Another out and back trail run where the surface is more forgiving and great for pic ups, progressive runs or faster last miles. So much of the long run it seems for me is about keeping the brain happy:) thank-you for sharing

The toilet paper is a good advice 🙂. I would add: to choose a route with sufficient foliage for cover.
