The scariest thing about PT is that it's 7 years old this year

So a terrifying trick they did with PT was have Lisa always follow you. As soon as you get the flash light she's "attached" to the player. With camera hacks you can look behind you and see her. So yeah, she's constantly following you, you just can't see her.

To me, PT was designed to be a safe that needed to be cracked, it wanted the internet to work together to figure out it’s puzzle and once they cracked the code, they were rewarded with the reveal of Silent Hills. It was never intended to play like any other game out there, and any sort of hand holding or tips would of completely miss the point of it. I think they also underestimated how popular the fascinating teaser was going to be.

Don’t touch that dial now, we’re just getting started.

I'd actually argue that PT does a lot to scare you, but by means of neglect and absence rather than aggressively chasing you.

I don't like impossible puzzles that I can't possibly solve on my own, but I think PT is different. Those few hours after launch, PT was more like an easter egg hunt. It was a community effort where everyone who was a fan of Kojima came together to try to solve this seemingly endless puzzle.

PT is intended as a playable tech demo/advertisement designed to generate buzz for Kojima’s new game and it seems like it would make more sense to critique it as an ad than a game. I think it’s a fascinating example of how you can generate a huge amount of interest in a product in a time where ad campaigns have a hard time capturing public interest for long. Like we’re literally talking about an ad for a product that never materialized 7 years after the ad dropped.

I got a baby laugh when I played by yelling "IM SO SORRY YOUR DADDY WAS AN ALCOHOLIC WHO LEAVES HIS BOTTLES ALL OVER THE GROUND"

Is it justifiable? Let's see. Are we still talking about it 7 years later? Did it bring a gaming world together? Did it scare our pants off? That's what it's all about. It's beyond justifiable, it's amazing.

this game lives in my head totally rent nearly 6 years now, and i dont plan on evicting it. i like when horror games introduce new atmospheres and ambience such as PT, the mechanics such as using the mic to say Jareth for the true ending puts me in the same awe as Phasmophobia did with introducing proximity chat

The fact that one of the ways to get the ending is to speak to Lisa and ask her for help makes this even more horrifying and real.

PT's design lends itself to transcend stereotypical judgement as a demo; I imagine a full fledged story with PT's mechanics would actually just be painful to play. But as a niche demo from some unknown developer, it's seemingly unjustifiable ambiguity and obscurity become it's main strengths especially when factoring it's gripping atmosphere, environment based plot exposition and short gameplay length.

I had nightmares for weeks because of PT. That image of her twitching in the hallway is permanently seared into my brain I think.

For that basically guessing puzzle. Imagine this, you are looping in your own personal hell with no way to get out for so long that you start to loose it, doing random stuff, look at faded mirror for a while, walking and staring at stuff, listen to static and try to make sense of it, try to reason with the ghost or even talk to yourself, all with a distorted sence of hope.
In my eyes, in this specific case it is genious, it is what the game wants to be. When this teaser puts you a in looping hell, It is completly different from being stuck in a dumb puzzle of a moving game. Would it work in a otherwise "normal" game, I don't think so, maybe, but in PT it made it what it is.

the scariest quote from PT that still gets me today was when you hear the voice say "look behind you. I SAID, look behind you."

idk i guess i'm just used to hearing games say to not look behind you, so it was a genuine surprise and heart-stopper to be told to do the opposite.

The issue with the dark pictures games is that it sticks to 80s style horror which by today's standards is hilarious

One thing I've never seen anyone mention that I found to work 100% of the time is, to avoid Lisa attacking you, never turn around, or at least, turn around very slowly, as little as possible. This applies at any point where you can hear Lisa's scary breathing. Every time you hear it, she can attack you if you move or turn too fast. If you don't hear it, you're safe to move however you wish. She can't appear spontaneously in front of you, so if you walk backwards whenever possible, you are safe. I hindsight, this makes even more sense once it was revealed by a modder that lisa is attached to you at all times.

I'd love to hear a critique of the dark pictures anthology. I've been wondering whether or not to buy specifically Man of Medan, and I'd like to hear what you think about it
