In recent culture a “Blue Moon” means a second full moon in a calendar month. This came about as an editor’s misinterpretation of the Maine Farmers’ Almanac in Sky & Telescope magazine. On August 22, 2021 the original folklore meaning of a “Blue Moon” (original as in the past century or so) because it is the third full moon of four in one season--in this case the summer of 2021–when usually there are only three full moons in a season. The full moon today was at 12:01 UTC. This is a blue tinted rendering of a normal "white" full Moon high in the sky. Some people actually complained that the real moon was red! 😊
