Sounds like a mind in turmoil. Genuinely puts me on edge. Really great music from a really great game. Sugar's screen-time was vague and contextless, as most things feel in this game. I do wish we knew why she was there and what happened to her for her to be like that, in a locked room with piles of sugar and seemingly mentally unstable, but I like that we're never given answers beyond what we reasonably find out. The Batter would not care about her enough to ask what happened. He has only one goal: to purify.

Personally, I believe in the theories that the child Hugo is in a coma and liable to die soon, and that the Batter "turns him OFF" at the end to end his suffering. If so, what does Sugar represent? She is the only character to call him a "ducky" and the only one to acknowledge his monstrous form before the special ending. Let's assume that the Judge is either another person or another side of the Batter that is trying to keep Hugo alive for however long and sees the Batter as a monster. Then what does Sugar represent? Why does she see him in the same way before the ending even comes, and why does she speak in a childish way? I think that this is a part of the mom, the sweet part (sweet like sugar?) that consoles the child, unlike the part of her which turns Hugo away from his dad (the Queen), saying things like "He loves you not". Like the Queen, Sugar opposes the father's actions and sees him as a monster. In fact, it is even possible that Hugo told his mother that he sees his dad as a monster, a "frightening ducky", and that is why she says the same thing. I could be wrong but it fits right together with the puzzle if you ask me.
