I like to imagine that since the Elsens are so timid and meek that they need to mentally prep themselves with this breath before engaging you in conversation, regardless of situation.

Anyone else picturing Mr Alias Conrad Coldwood inhaling dramatically multiple times into a mic to create this sound effect?

This song's placement as the first track can be seen as you waking up in this strange world for the first time.

When I first saw the Elsens I thought they were supposed to be buff because of their overworld sprites. Now, imagine a buff Elsen.

this is game is old, and i doubt many people ( besides the total two remain fans of this game ) come to revisit the soundtrack. i love this with all my heart and soul, and have been replaying it recently, so even if not a person will see it, i’m going to try and take a crack at each track in the game with its overall connections and just general points.
the elsens are . . . odd, but you don’t really need me to tell you that. the fact that their breathing is a track in and of itself is even odder. though, the title, global, is obvious in reference to all elsens, everywhere.
though, i can’t get it out of my head that this breath reflects hugo’s possible state. it’s a dying breath, even hammered more with zone three’s burnt elsen repeating this noise, over and over, rather than having no battle noise whatsoever, like most of the enemies in the game. it would be unsettling enough ( as unsettling as the encounter is alone ) to have it be completely devoid of music and sound, but i feel it was intentional to keep the breathing, since i’d imagine it’d have to be a deliberate addition. the elsen is crying out to you, the player AND the batter, for any sense of a salvation or aid. just crying out help, breathing roughly over and over until you kill him. maybe it would’ve been best to let him live out what time he had left, or it was a mercy kill that drove us. not that it really matters; the batter never backs down. except tactfully, of course.
with most theories of this game, correlating with hugo fighting a disease that is otherwise incurable, i feel this global title is reflective of his disposition, too. this is pain consumes him and his life and time so much it feels like it’s all his life is. global not in the sense of everywhere in the total world, but his own world. all he’s ever known.

you ever stop and think about what an awful life it would really be to only have smoke to breathe?
I do every time I hear this sound

My only question is why Alias decided to put this in the official soundtrack
