Cracking the Code is a groundbreaking documentary series that explores the puzzle of virtuoso guitar picking. Melding archival footage, in-depth interviews, painstakingly crafted animation, and custom soundtrack, it's a pop-science investigation of an age-old mystery: Why are some players seemingly super-powered?

Season 1 recounts the story of virtuoso guitar amid the unprecedented flowering of technique in the '80s. Across 8 episodes, and nearly 1.5 hours of analysis, it sets out the core technical challenges of the instrument — challenges which we'll surmount in Season 2.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this series, and what a sense of nostalgia I experienced while watching it! I was completely transported back to my room at age 16, sitting at the edge of my bed, with a cheap guitar in my lap, and a metronome by my side. I spent the vast majority of my adolescence attempting to conquer Vai and Malmsteen licks. (Mostly in vain, unfortunately, but Cracking the Code gives me renewed hope!) Thank you for taking me back to that much simpler, and very special period of my life!

Also, fantastic work on the series! I never imagined a documentary dedicated to alternate picking could be such a work of art!
