4:26 The parachute jump, was originally the Lifesavers parachute jump and was originally located in queens. It was part of the 1939-1940 NY Worlds fair. After the fair the ride was purchased by the Tilyou Brothers for $150, 000 for Steeplechase park and was operated until 1960’s when the park closed. You would never jump from the top with a parachute strapped to you back. It was more like a bench with a parachute connected to it with a controlled decent like the one at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Riders were lifted in canvas seats to the top snd then dropped. The parachutes and shock absorbers steadied the ride. It was a successful ride for its day.

Great vlog! Such a fun and sentimental place for NYC and you've captured that well.

One of my most favorite places in the world as well. I missed the days I lived there and running my Coney Island blog.

Wrong about the My Parachute Jump. The ride opened in the 1938 -39 World's Fair in FLUSHING QUEENS. After the fair was over, The tilyou family who owned STEEPLECHASE PARK in Coney Island bought it and placed it in that very spot you see. After Steeplechase park closed in 1964, The ride closed as well. #1. You did NOT climb it. But rather It was real ride. #2. You were strapped in a seat and lifted up to the top (264) feet high. #3. When the Chute hit the top the Parachute would open, and held on by 8 guild wires you would float back to earth. It cost 25 cents to go on it.

What a fantastic tour. I haven't been to Coney Island in a long time but it is for sure one of the most unique places to visit. I love how old school Coney Island feels and I think you really showed that on this video. I also remember the world's smallest lady, the bearded lady, and more freak show stuff many years ago. You made me want to return soon. Excellent video please keep them coming!

What great memories this brought back. I no longer live in NY, but when I did, Coney Island was the place to go every summer. I miss Nathan's too!

I went to Coney Island in March 2018. I'd always wanted to go to Coney Island becasue I had seen it so many times in films. I enjpyed it but was a bit disappointed. It was very cold and quiet and most things were closed. Rather dull in fact. It took us ages to get there as well from the New Yorker Hotel as most of the journey was a by bus due to engineering works on the railway. I really think we did not pick a good time to do this trip to NY. It seemed to be off season. But I did enjoy soaking up the atmospiere and just being there. But I would really like to visit again in the middle of the summer season. I know it would make all the difference. It put me a lot in mind of Blackpool on the Sth West Coast of England ...very similair - apart from the accents of course! All said and done loved New York.

Excellent video! I grew up there in the 70's. I can tell you it was a scary neighborhood. I didn't like to go there when I was 9 yrs young. 😅...My mother would bribe me with Nathan's if I went. That Stillwell train stay was the scariest. Drunks, homeless etc...always gave me a bad vibe. I'm glad to see them building it up... LOOKING REAL GOOD. I'm making a trip there this summer to reminisce. I really am looking forward to it. You should consider having your own Tours there? You would be the first and can make lots of Thanks for the video man....I can't wipe my smile off as it brings back memories....😊

Great job! So many memories growing up in Brooklyn in the 70’s and 80’s, and on hot summer days going down there with the family to hang out, eat Nathan‘s hotdogs, ride the rides, and hang out at the beach! Thank you for your positive video!

Great video. I enjoyed watching this and it brought back memories of Coney Island visits so many years ago. Nathan's hot dogs are great and I would also indulge in raw clams on the half shell!
