Oxycontin is a powerful opioid pain medication and is the brand name for a timed-release formula of oxycodone.

According to results from the 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), an estimated 2.4 million Americans used prescription drugs nonmedically for the first time within the past year, which averages to approximately 6,600 initiates per day. More than one-half were females and about a third were aged 12 to 17. Although prescription drug abuse affects many Americans, certain populations, such as youth, older adults, and women, may be at particular risk.

This Dr. Explains how the narcotic works and such a simple and straightforward way. I wish more doctors would simplify things like him.

2023 and oxycodone is almost impossible to get legally yet it works well on chronic pain, I have my life back, I function, I think clearly. Pain affects everything, breaking relationships, ending the capacity to work, an umbrella over all aspects of my life. This doctor hasnt a clue. I am no addict. I just want to function. I couldnt go walking without my meds. He hasnt a clue. Emotional coma...bs. Euphoria...no. Pain relief...yes. Ketamine is even better but unavailable except in hospital situations. Responsible people take their medications responsibly.

As amazing and fun as oxycontin is, it is the worst feeling when you run out. Physically it isn't that bad, but psychologically all I do is think about it. It is a very euphoric feeling.

Affect work performance? Yes, when I do Oxy(I snort it, 40mg 2 times a day), I work 10 times better than I do without, by that I mean I never get bored so I can do the most mundane work and actually enjoy it. So with Oxy I do a way better job than I would have without.. But when I dont have it, for the first 4 days I can barely work. Everything is boring and I get very tired, also im much weaker.. DONT DO OXYS, PLEASE!

It's NOT synthetic heroin! Heroin is a morphine - derivative, oxycodone is synthesised from thebaine! And morphine makes a person much more groggy than oxycodone does! That's somewhat misleading. Interesting discussion anyway.

I have had several surgeries with oxycodone post surgery. It did do wonders for pain and my state of mind, but would keep me alert and awake. I could either stay awake with pain, or stay awake on oxycodone. I never had a problem getting off it, and was on it for several months at one time.

This man has never taken Oxycodone if he believes that people taking it experience euphoria.

I left a lengthy comment documenting my own horrible journey as a prescription NHS chronic pain sufferer..has comment been deleted?? My comment was very honest & was written from the perspective of someone with an incurable progressive illness & my someone who s taking Oxy to get high like many of them are here..my comment was to actually try and get through to some of these people that they are playing Russian roulette with their respiratory system taking this for kicks...a hard getting upsetting comment might have saved a life! I lost 3 friends to opiate overdoses in the 1980' s .

This makes no sense.
Almost everyone who gets surgery is treated with legal heroine (aka Diamorphine)
for what the last 50 years?

I was on it for a couple weeks after breaking my femur, but i stopped taking it so i could drink again. Drinking beer and whiskey works alot better for me. When i had just 1 drink with 10mg of oxycodone i felt super dizzy and weird.

I'm a very stubborn person I took oxy 30s for 10 years for fun, 4 times a day no more no less( not unless I stayed up late then I took another dose after 5 hours ) .
4 years ago I quit cold turkey but I I'm black/Afro-Asiatic you know we're Built different, all that extra Carbon💪, if you want to stop then stop!! if you don't grow some poppies in the backyard (or in a grow tent) if you're going to use be militant stick to the Dose plan, don't go over your daily amount, but you can always go under ....

I stopped because I'm a bad Boy, I go to jail a lot, can't be going to jail dope sick🤷‍♂️ ....

It’s easy for these docs to spout crap unless they actually have experienced chronic pain they will never understand . Oh why don’t you go or a walk um get them endorphins lowing etc... I’ll tell you why because we’re sick and tired of being sick and tired I pain. They all think they know everything I would like to see the opinions of doctors who have chronic pain for 6 years +

I take 2.5 mg every other day. That’s not going to be addictive is it?
Just gives me a little buzz and energy.
