We visited a couple villages along the Dordogne River, beginning with Beynac-et-Cazenac and it’s clifftop 12th c. castle. We then moved on to La Roque-Gageac where we took a trip on a gabarres, a type of flat-bottom boat used to transport goods on the river in centuries past.

Caves in the cliffs above La Roque-Gageac were occupied in prehistoric times and converted to defensive fortifications in the middle ages.

The town’s tiny Église Notre-Dame dates to 1330.

We had one of the best meals of the entire trip at Le Fat Pig, a rooftop restaurant overlooking the river.
