How about at the end of the series you take the best bits of each setup and make one final budget setup. I think most people if they are on a tight budget won’t stick to one store but will shop around.

I've spent a fortune on sleeping bags in my time and walked into Go Outdoors one day and they had a Vango 3 season sleeping bag on sale for a ridiculous price. Needless to say I bought it.
It way outperformed it's rating and price and is now my go to 3 season bag. Vango sleeping gear is seriously under rated.

I've always loved vango growing up but distanced myself from them years ago, hopefully they've still got some goodness left in them as they used to make some fantastic gear...

Sprayway from Manchester used to make fantastic gear too!

Great idea and great video. Tried it myself online. Got a vango nyx 200, oex roam 300, oex traverse mat, oex etna stove, oex grouppa cook set, eurohike head torch and I protect torch lite for just under £150. It can be done !!! Unfortunately I have already spent a small fortune on other stuff !!! But no over priced compact meals !!!

Just a heads up, the pegs with the loops on the top are for pegging down the strap that goes across the front of the tent. Holds it in place and you don't catch them getting in and out. You'll see the 2 eyelet holes in the strap.

I think this is the perfect budget setup!
I brought the phoxx 1 for £50 and a £16 self inflating mat from go outdoors for mine, gave me some left over for a rucksack and a trangia stove

Great video Dan, I think £150 is about the limit for anyone new starting out to set if they like it. Stay safe mate

£120 for the tent + sleeping setup and £80 for a rucksack and cooking equipment seems reasonable for a budget setup. I used a Vango Soul 100 for my hiking tent for a couple of years it's still in the garage and usable and only cost £45.

For a cook set, I'd recommend the Trangia 27 cookset with the alcohol burner included is only £42 it is a little slow at cooking but will last decades.

You also don't have to buy everything at once, you just need to buy the tent and sleep system, you can get by with a flask of tea/coffee and a packed lunch and some cold snacks and drinks.

Not a bad setup for £150. I wouldn't have dreamed of such gear in cubs. We had a thin foam matt, and a sleeping bag in an old communal canvas tent, and as a Scout, it was the same setup apart from digging a hip hole for side sleeping. Teenage years eventually upgraded to a cheapo £5 air mattress that meant being freezing cold as I was an idiot and didn't think about ground insulation being essential but I didn't care because of the booze and being young and I could sleep anywhere regardless of comfort, little jet boils were not a thing if you wanted hot water you'd bring a thermos flask. The setup didn't really change till my 30s when I wanted a better mattress for my back and a lighter tent and gear to go on hikes. And eventually, a jet boil as I didn't want to wait for the rest of the group before I had my first cuppa. One of the benefits of starting young is being able to build your kit eventually up, and work out where your money is best invested and chalk up those odd crap buys with experience, I mean did I really need an inflatable early 00s grey alien blow-up chair from the market with matching sofa?

Nothing stopping leaving the fly sheet tied on then it's just peg out the corners and put the poles in and the inner doesn't get wet in the rain

You shopped at the right place and found decent equipment at a decent low-mid range price. We might need to be 'smart shoppers' as well! The kit needs a tarp and a gas canister to round it out for outside cooking. Most of us will have suitable knives, forks, and spoons in the drawer at home. The same goes for plates and maybe a proper small cook pot and fry pan. We did and took them along as part of our family kit.

Hi Dan, great video I'd be totally comfortable with what you bought & £150 it's well affordable. Cheers Tony in Brixham 👍😁

With your £1.80 change you could buy 4 tins of Asda basics baked beans and sausages and a box of matches to light the stove.

I still think used is the way to go. I'll be camping in a £36.99 setup this weekend. Tent, backpack, sleeping bag, sleep mat and pillow. Decent gear as well.
