The First Manned Rocket Flight Wasn’t in the 1960s

The soviets may been the first to get a human into space in the 1960s, but people have been strapping themselves to and piloting rockets for several hundred years, if not more.

I use the word "piloting" loosely, as much of it it just involves a tube and a tun of gunpowder.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

The account of Lagari Hasan was partly true. He didn't glide back down safely. When the powered flight ended he dropped back down to the Bosphorus, broke several bones and was rescued. His brother, Hazarfen Ahmet glided from Galata tower to the other side of the sea using and improving upon Da Vinci's designs for a glider.

Yay 'splosions! Thanks for the vid Dylan. I really like how varied your content is, video games one week, culture the next, science another, etc. Even though I'm subscribed to channels that do any one of those things exclusively, you've always managed to intrigue. Keep it up!

in the 40's the nazis had a manned rocket that shot up in the air above bombers and then shot them with other rockets or machine guns.

I think they are mostly blown up stories. One would think that someone would be around to document such things.

I dont look at him as the first human to fly on a rocket, I have always looked at him as the first man in space and to orbit the earth.. just seems you are trying to force this title out with a few twists..

Hi Dylan! A grand video indeed, although I'd have to say that most of those "safe landing" rocket tales were probably hocum. I do have a video idea for you but it might be kind of short notice. In honor of Columbus day on Monday, could you do a piece on who actually discovered America (and maybe note a thing or two about the horrific things Columbus really did while in America). An excellent reference book is: "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James W. Loewen. Just a thought, enjoying the excellent work:).
