Housing Solutions Lab: Exploring Housing Options for Older Adults

Social isolation, housing affordability and climate change are all growing issues across Canada. More than half of single-detached homes in Canada are occupied by only one or two people, and older adults represent a large portion of occupants. Despite interest in renting out secondary suites or home sharing, many older adults hesitate for various reasons.

This past year, SFU Renewable Cities and Hollyburn Community Services Society launched the Housing Solutions Lab, engaging with older adults, community members, municipal staff and service providers on Vancouver’s North Shore to identify barriers and solutions for these interconnected issues. This lab includes designing a pilot program for matchmaking older adult homeowners with renters.

Join us to discuss challenges and solutions from the perspectives of older adults, service providers and municipalities.

This webinar is sponsored by United Way BC’s Seniors Housing Working Group.

Presenters:

Leanne Sawatzky, Interim Executive Director, SFU Renewable Cities
