Im just realizing something. The reason Kojima used a cover of this song and not the real David Bowie version is because you aren't the real Big Boss...

Even though this isn't David Bowie I think this version works better with the game. It has that creepy feeling to it.

Honestly one of the best openings to a game ever....it's so ominous because Boss had been in a coma for 9 years and then shortly after waking he's thrown into a world that's trying to kill him

This version of the music has a vibe we simply can't explain, like a psycodelic mix of nostalgia with some creepy felling that something is missing and we feel for it.

does anyone else think it's a subtle clue to the storyline of the game the fact that this is a cover version that is regularly mistaken for the original? is it a reference to the fact that you spend the game "covering" Big Boss to the point that you actually beleive yourself to be him?

This song was a foreshadowing on how the real Big boss actually tricked the Venom snake by making him his doppelganger. This clearly shows how Venom was taken aback when he got to know about the truth and how he came to terms with it. The lyrics tell that the 'Man who sold the world' clearly was Naked snake
