Audemars Piguet Royal Oak vs Patek Philippe Nautilus | Watchfinder & Co.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak vs Patek Philippe Nautilus, a question that begins by talking about the wave of quartz watches that hit the west in the 1970s, but it's in the aftermath that things really get interesting. With established watch brands crumbling left, right and centre, unable to compete with the prices of their eastern counterparts, the mechanical watch industry was forced to pivot, to realign its business objectives into something that would keep it alive. What followed was a move so bold and so risky it should never have worked. What resulted was the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus.

The Patek is more luxurious and classy, while the AP is more masculine and rugged. I prefer the AP personally, but they are both beautiful and timeless watches.

One of the best videos about these two icons of the watch industry that I have ever seen. Straight to the point and with all the information that really matter about these two creations of Genta, who in my humble opinion, reached the pinacle of his watch design with these two holy grails for so many watch collectors. Well done, Watchfinder. Your videos are pure joy to watch.

Fine lesson on the history of art, design, trade, industry... philosophy even. Well done ! Well done !!!

The Nautilus is one of my favourite designs of that era. Simple, elegant and yet distinctive.

Patek > AP
Nautilus < Royal Oak
I would take the Royal Oak even if I like Patek more! :)

Both are beautiful, but I definitely prefer the elegant simplicity of the Nautilus.
The Royal Oak looks a bit too industrial... but has that cool hexagonal crown, nice touch!

The Nautilus is, in my opinion the best watch to ever be designed. There is something about that simplicity that just commands respect.

I️ love Patek BUT comparing these two watches the AP looks more balanced and overall more appealing to me

When I first got into watches I was really into and the Royal Oak. Nowadays, I think the Nautilus is much more beautiful than the Royal Oak.

Another joy to look and listen to. These watches represent a philosophy I hate, an object made to be expensive and bought by people BECAUSE it's expensive to show the world you can afford something overpriced for what it is.
Now with that said, I would still buy them if I could afford them, only for a different reason than what their initial idea was, because they are STUNNING!!! When it comes to choosing between the 2, I simply couldn't decide, one second I love the AP more, yet a couple of minutes later the PP hinged case amazes me. To he honest, if I could afford one, it would most likely mean I can afford both, so I wouldn't choose, but rather get both 😊

Genta was such a troll. He made a $35, 000+ ladies' watch for men in 5 minutes because he's annoyed by time and doesn't like watches. Wtf. Genta: "Here's your damn watch design, now get out of my face!"

Weirdly, even though when side by side they really do look amazingly similar, I hate the nautilus and I love the royal oak. I would love some day to own a white gold royal oak.

The patek oh man I need that in every reference

I love Patek Brand wise, but the royal oak is perfection when it comes to craftsmanship!

The Nautilus has something akin to a sense of humor about it. The porthole latch, old-style TV shaped dial, bulbous features... it's silly, yet incredibly refined. If there's one thing rich people (who are generally older) crave, it's more time. And when something is silly, it seems youthful, and something youthful seems like there's plenty of time left. Time giving time, as it were.

The AP is a fantastic watch in its own right, but a close second (watch puns vol. 2) to the Patek when of a certain age/mindset. It's just not as joyous. With its sharp, aggressively angular design, it seems to be more structured towards the taste of the successful person looking to stay sharp* and "really make it, " whereas the Patek is for the person who has more monetary success than is reasonably desired, and is now trying to advance on other, more emotional fronts.

That's my, reading-too-much-into-it take on these two legends. Both with their own strengths, and only better than the other in different times of one's life. I would like both pls send

I love watching these videos for the sheer joy of the narrator's voice and choice of words. Outstanding and elegantly spoken, like a poetry recital!
You, sir, are an artist.

Although the AP came first, I still like the look of the Nautilus.

i remember watching these videos as a child, i’m watching them now with my perfect AP royal oak on my wrist years later.

Thank you for the video. Putting them side by side, to me, PP Nautilus is more "smooth" and understated; AP Royal Oak with the screws on the bezel, the comparatively bigger "AP" logos, the rather complicated links on the bracelet, is "louder".
