In Mark, Jesus is a Jewish man. By John, he's an anti-Jewish gnostic vapor. Recognizing this shift of milieu (and authorship) is the key to understanding the origins of Christianity and questions about of the Historicity of Jesus.

I think we are on the path to the end of Christian apologetics as we know it. Something that has been developing over the last 50 years. Scholarly research is more available and accessible now than ever. And it is truth seekers like Derek who are bringing it to our attention.

A Christian peer of mine challenged me to go "read through all the other non canonical gospels then and get back to them when" when I asked how do we know if the gospels we have are considered canonical when other denominations have different or additional books.

Your channel, though kinda clickbaity is a wealth of knowledge on this topic, and shows me that nuance is often necessary when dealing with these topics, without necessarily stepping on the toes of people. Better an informed Christian than an ignorant one.

I think the gospels are just Christian fanfictions... And the only reason the books in NT line up is, because the church hand-picked which books were going together to spend their narrative that they've been spinning for the last 2089 years.
You can clearly see this if you read the Christian Bible New testament, and then read the Old testament you clearly see where Christianity was created find appropriating other verses and other surrounding cultures, as in the Greeks and the Roman culture of multiple gods and Men born half god half human...🤷

I'm really not surprised that the gospel with least correlation to the other gospels and the highest christology is the one with so many questions being asked of its authenticity and whether there's a historical Jesus in there.

In the Synoptics the cleansing of the temple is the final straw that leads to the crucifixion, in John it is the raising of Lazarus.

I love this idea of looking at the Christian writings without regard for their canonicity. What does each book have to say? What if the Gospel of Judas was made canon instead of John, how would you read each one then?
