The thing is the ribbing is due to them stripping the Galactica of armor plate as they slowly cannibalized the ship. Its not a design feature. There's supposed to be armor plate all over the ship.

Nicely done. Though if you wanna be "legit" lorewise you might wanna replace the Mk 7 Vipers with Mk 1 or Mk 2 versions. Unless I'm mistaken, by the time the Mk 7 was fielded Pacifica was no longer around. Afaik she was destroyed in the first war.

Great ship!! But one problem. Galen Tyrol discovered on Galactica that "Her bones are rotting" and that the designers "cut corners" trying to get these majestic ships into combat. So by Chief Tyrol's observations, (He himself is a Final Five Cylon) it seems that a Type K (Kobolian Oxygen and Nitrogen) atmosphere wreaks havoc on a Battlestar's structure probably due to carbon dioxide exhalation and moisture from the crew and the basic day to day operations.

They weren't designed for long term space operations. Their FTL drive and "Red Line" meaning the restriction of jump range due to limits on computing power, implies that they were built for the duration of a war (maybe up to 10 years) and no more. They have no real purpose other than a warship. Sure they could have probably been converted to colony ships had the war not occured, but no war=no Battlestar. And even as a large scale colony ship, it would be built differently to reflect the many years it could take to reach a very distant settlement. It was only through an idea Tyrol presented to Admiral Adama that saved Galactica at all. And that was to allow Chief Tyrol to "grow" Cylon structures to the existing frame of Galactica. And although Adama decried it at first, he finally accepted it was the only way to save Galactica, and allowed the ship to be overtaken by Cylon structural and Computer modifications.
