This is a really interesting influence, but interestingly the original Mongolian Empire with Ganges Khan was actually really good at diplomacy and empire building. They were a new kind of empire at the time and the word horde as is often used to describe them derogatorily today originally described this new kind of empire they had built, and not a bunch of people. It meant a collection of tribes forming an empire.
