It is amusing to me that we have only been able to dig down 8 miles out of the 4000 miles it takes to get to the center of the earth, however we have been taught middle school through highschool the components of the inside of our planet. How is this so, if we can’t even figure it out for ourselves?

Watching this show on TV was a mindfuck when I was younger. Watching this now on YouTube with plenty of comments making memes about it heightens my experience.

I remember reading a comic book as a child where explorers bored deeply into the Earth and found themselves inside a huge earth-sized spherical spacecraft containing giant deceased aliens slumped over the controls. Their spacecraft was our planet.

Interesting that the two drawings at 1:16 and 1:19, which appear to be from different cultures, each show 6 rings with the 3rd and 4th rings down being thicker than the upper 1st and 2nd rings. Would be interested to see if this is a pattern over time and cultures in these types of representations.
