Absolutely. Women were NOT meant to be taking part in battles. It was a HUGE responsibility for the women to stay safe at home to look after the children, the home to repopulate after men were killed in battle. Back then the chances of dying in child birth was high enough, they didn't need women also risking their lives in battle.

Which does not mean the women were helpless, they could defend the children and the elderly if needed. But no way could I ever manage a full battle. Would that be correct?

It's almost like the men cared about their women and knew the rigors and horrors of war would and could reach them.

And attempt to spare them all of that, they moved them to safety 👍

I wouldn’t think Viking families would want to risk the woman being in the battlefield simply because she could lose her unborn child in the fighting. Especially because the infant mortality rate may have been as bad as it was in later medieval times.

Not only are you historic accurate, but your content is even more entertaining then the Vikings series

But you have to admit, the idea of a shield maiden is kinda hot. At least that’s how I see it lol

Viking women were most likely trained in combat to protect the children and elderly, not to engage in frontline combat.

Actually not a bad thought for modern tactical training if you're a woman who's always carting your kids around. Don't engage in first line combat. Evac the kids, cover them, and only engage if necessary.

As someone who has actually fought full contact with sword and shield, I respectfully disagree that any significant number of women ever VOLUNTARILY fought in combat. They would not have been strong enough. There may have been the OCCASIONAL badass female who grew up with a family of brothers, kicking their asses on a daily basis, but there is NO WAY women fought on ANYTHING approaching a regular basis.

Bearing children and raising them back then took courage enough/ facts are facts- I respect men doing what they had to do in their culture, I just want the truth
Of history if we can parse it out, ✌🏼

What some people seem to forget is that before modern medicine women had a 1 in 7-10 chances of dying during her child bearing years. Plus when you added in famine, weather, disease, the results of war, etc they led risky lives too. Very different from men in battle of course. But with multiple pregnancies and such high death rates, can we please give our foremothers some credit without them having to act like men!
