To add to this, even before speaking, infants begin to understand that sounds, gestures, facial expressions, etc. convey meaning. They learn that crying can attract attention/ get needs met. This foundational understanding that language serves a communicative purpose lays the groundwork for further language development. And the “no filter” is what I would refer to as not yet developing what is called theory of mind. Theory of mind, which typically begins to develop around 4-5 years old, allows us to understand different perspectives, understand others can have false beliefs, and do things like predict others emotions. It is important for things like empathy and communication, especially for social interactions. Autistic individuals often have difficulty with theory of mind which can lead to difficulties in social situations. Always interesting to hear your videos 👍
