Wow. This makes some sense to me. I had quint bypass just before covid, started rehab and that following week (after 2 sessions) everything shut down. So I didn't get to do rehab. And now 1 1/2 yr later I am really struggling with anxiety and depression. (thanks for a small forum to unload a bit)

I steal deal with Cardiac Depression. I had CABG x3 with complications where the wires tore thru my sternum after discharge. “5 Days” My heart and Sternum ended up getting infected. I had 2-3 Abscess’s around my heart. They went in and Debrided my chest cavity and sternum. They rebuilt my sternum with titanium plates and screws, which within 2 weeks of that surgery the screws started tearing loose from the sternum and plates. I had the plates removed. I ended receiving a cardiac stent two months after my surgery. Then two months after that I received another Cardiac Stent. I went thru Cardiac Rehab 4 times. My employer at the time was giving me a hard time and threatening to fire me for missing so much work. They did reasonable accommodations that made things worst and put me in a highly stressful job. Compared to my Previous line of work as a Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse. I worked for 25 years as a nurse in Cardio Vascular Recovery, Neuro Trauma, ER, … but the job they gave was doing Consults within the Veterans Administration. They would pile me up with consults where I couldn’t keep up. They eventually retired me out. I was able to get Social Security 2 years after my surgery only for them to take it away and say I owe them now. My life has been a living hell since my surgery. I deal with PTSD 5 years after my surgery where I relive events from when I worked with critical patients. It is like I put in a 40 hr. week in one nights time where I wake up yelling or screaming and sick to my stomach and stressed out. I only get 2-6 hours sleep a night due to chronic pain from my sternum and lower back. I deal with depression and take medication which is of little of effect and when it does effect me it makes my depression worst. My surgery was Oct. 15 2015 I was 46. I am 53 now. Todays date is Oct. 9th 2022. I am getting sick to my stomach and very anxious it will soon be my 7 year anniversary from Open Heart Surgery. I do not write this to scare anyone from Open Heart Surgery. Open Heart Surgery is an effective way treat Coronary Artery Disease. There are risks and complications with any surgery. End result I deal with depression, PTSD, Chronic Pain. This is my Story.

Depression after heart surgery is a very real occurrence. I have had it since June. It doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon.

Everything about my open heart (3) bypass surgery until they put me on Metoprolol. Horrible drug. I had more breathing and shortness of breath issues after my surgery than before. To many nasty side effects.
