One of my FAVORITE Atari related companies in the day was Gadgets by Small!

Dave Small was so cool. Kind of a hero in the Atari world, at least to my eyes.

Come along and let us chat about one of the coolest devices in the day that let our Atari ST based computers like the 520ST, 1040ST, Mega 2/4 ST, Stacy, etc... run Mac Software!

This video is all about "What Came In The Box" and how you may have received yours in the day, if you plunked down your hard earned cash to become a cool MacDude!

Was there a calendar feature in Spectre GCR? I'm asking because there are following texts on the SpectreGCR floppy:
Happy Birthday Eric!
Happy Birthday Twister!
Beware the Ides of March.
Happy Birthday Barb!
Happy Birthday Doug!
Happy Birthday Jenny!
Happy Birthday Dave!
Happy Birthday Jamie!
Dave and Sandy start writing for Creative Computing.
Happy Birthday S.O.F.
Happy Birthday U.S.A.
Neil takes a walk.
Happy Birthday Sandy! She's 29 again.
9/8/68 - "Man Trap" becomes the first Star Trek episode.
Happy Birthday Dan!
... and several citations from various books and movies, like:
"Delay is preferable to error." -- T.J.
"Young men have a passion for regarding
their elders as senile." -- H.B.A.
"Chance is a nickname for providence." -- S.R.N.C.
"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that." -- H.9000
... etc

I had the pleasure of meeting David Small back in 1987 at the Atari MAGIC Show in Michigan. Very personable, and he had lots of great stories. The one story that always stuck with me, and probably inspired a deeper interest in electronics, was the one where he wired up a tone generator to a Radio Shack super tweeter, with a button he would keep on nightstand. When the neighbors dog would start going off while he was trying to sleep he'd activate the tone generator, which was set to essentially be a dog whistle. Shortly thereafter the dog would stop barking and he could go back to sleep. All without needing to complain to his neighbor about the dog, and without anybody being any wiser - except those he told the story to.

I just got a complete Spectre GCR with the box, manual, pin, and floppies. What is the Mac PD disk?

Back in 1990 i bought my 520 ST off a guy at work who modded it to run Mac System 6. It was my first “Mac” that I could afford. I remember we had to wire wrap this IDE hard drive. It had tons of blue hookup wire on a bed of nails all over it.

It booted straight into Mac OS. There was no emulation software or cartridges. Unfortunately I have lost the modded hard drive but I still have the ST and I opened it up and all that’s modded in i is a “piggy back” RAM upgrade to 1MB.

It’s a mystery to me how the heck that Mac mod worked!

Looks like a cool device! I never owned anything like it back in the day, but I remember reading about them.. The ability for Amiga and Atari to run Mac.. I know Amiga even had PC Cards to run dos software with a full 8088 processor on the card.. The earliest one I remember was an expansion device for the Commodore 64 that allowed you to run Apple II software.. it was very expensive.. and I have read since that it had the potential to completely fry your computer.. but the idea was cool! It is amazing to think that we can now run all of that old software in little emulators on our modern computers... but the early days were full of very innovative people and companies!
