I don't do it personally. Merri doesn't scratch anything. He has a huge wooden log to sharpen them on. I couldn't stand if someone cut off my perfectly filed nails😅

I have a clowder of 4 boys right now. I only ever trim their dew claws. And they are happy about it because that claw is the one that sticks on the carpet, my shirt, the arm of the chair while they are sitting on it, the scratching post.... that happens so often.... they are happy to have the dew claws rounded off.

My spoiled cats have all sorts of scratching surfaces, and hence trimming their nails is something they do naturally, but then again, they are not nomads. They follow me everywhere and I am not a nomad, myself.

My cat is super chill so he lets me do it while he sits in my lap (no he doesnt like it. He just doesnt fight back often) and for the girls we throw them in a blanket wrap and release one paw at a time

I covered my 5 month old with a towel and letting one leg out at a time. happy it worked.

or train them while they are kittens. My cats doesn´t mind nail trimming, because they have been used to it since they were kittens.
