I personally think, that at some point they decided they wanted to hide the ethnicity of the statues. If they wanted to kill the statue why are there so many with the original nose broken off, and plaster, or mortar noses added back?

That is a lie the noses were removed because of the shape of the nose on the statue depicting who the people were and that is dark skinned people. Napoleon himself did this to and he was not an ancient Egyptian.
