The broken noses on ancient Egyptian statues have long been a topic of debate among historians and archaeologists. Some believe that the missing noses are the result of erosion, while others attribute it to looting or vandalism. However, the most likely explanation comes from the ancient Egyptian belief that statues had a life force and a connection to the represented person's world.

According to this belief, removing the nose would cause the statue to lose its ability to breathe and be reborn in the afterlife. Some rulers even modified the statues to limit their capabilities, fearing that deceased pharaohs could continue to exert power.

Despite the reasons behind the broken noses, these statues still hold great cultural significance for the Egyptian people and the world at large. They provide a glimpse into the rich and complex history of this ancient civilization, and are a testament to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen who created them.

Thanks for watching!

I don't think so because in India our statues also have lost their noses. And we know the invaders did it.

The noses were removed to hide the identity.
How can the only the nose erode that much while the rest of the statue remain in such a great state of preseveration.

I can’t prove it. But I think my neighbor is trying to steal the nose off my garden gnome.

Believe I read that Napoleon shot the nose off the sphinx. Can this be verified from records?

Wow, its readily apparent by these comments that the public education system has failed hard. Missing noses from statues was a very common way to show disrespect from a conquering army. It didnt just happen in Egypt, we see it all over the world, from all eras throughout history.

Lies lies lies. All the invaders couldn’t stand the prove they see from the faces who the real builders are.

You know the reason. Hiding the truth doesn't work. Nose was too broad to discredit the continued lies 😢😢
