There's 184 cross referenced oil filters you can use for the GM 4.3 Litre Mercruiser engine. Do not tighten with the oil wrench, only hand tighten. I always use the larger oil filters because it is without any doubt, better oil flow. Always oil the new gasket on the new oil filter and screw it back onto the 4.3 litre again, hand tighten.

My understanding is that this is a 4.3 liter engine. And yet you are measuring 4 and a 1/2 quarts of oil. Should it not be 4.3 liiters of oil?
