I'll never forget my first experience seeing an Imax movie. Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight, may this man keep pushing his limits (in a healthy way!) and making films that really are not the norm anymore with making his think about our past, present and future. I wish we hard more like him.

I'm not as big a fan as everyone else seems to be, but I greatly appreciate Nolan's dedication to actual film and pushing the boundaries of the format. It's commendable.

Nolan is a master at his craft! HOWEVER, I do think IMAX needs to be held accountable for how limited these screenings are. A lot of the general public doesn’t realize that most “IMAX” releases are not true IMAX format. Especially the Xenon Digital ones. They’re only 1.9:1 and not the true 1.43:1. The actual 70MM IMAX screens in the world must be limited to 30ish. So they release this video, and expect us to be hyped up, when in reality, only a very small percentage of the audience will get this opportunity. I’m not sure if Christopher Nolan is aware how limited these theaters are (I’m sure he must be aware and I know he’s probably advocated for more). It’s a shame, because IMAX had such an ample opportunity after The Dark Knight to really expand this opportunity to others. Instead, all they did was expand and cut corners with their cropped “Lie-Max” theaters around the country. We had an authentic 70MM IMAX here in Las Vegas where I was fortunate enough to watch The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar in, but the rail system and projector were removed during COVID and now it’s just a massive screen with a Xenon Digital IMAX Experience. I can’t wait to see Oppenheimer. I have my standard 70MM tickets and also the “Lie-Max” tickets for the old screen I watched his previous films on. But it is a bit discouraging not everyone gets the full experience.

I already pre ordered my IMAX 70mm tickets at the AMC Lincoln Square IMAX theater with one of the few true IMAX 70mm projectors left in the world. I can't wait to see what Nolan delivers with this format.

My first true IMAX movie.

See, historical dramas and movies that are dialogue-heavy aren’t my thing, but this movie sucked me in when I got to see it at Universal Cinema. Oppenheimer really made me appreciate the medium of IMAX film.

With so much poor quality reboots, and studios ruining much loved franchises. We need Directors like Nolan and villeneuve around, for the artistry of cinema, as well as our sanity.
