Most of the church seems to avoid the simple warning of John that "sin is transgression of the law." They are sure the Spirit will tell them. Why would the Spirit need to tell them when Yeshua gave the Law to Moses? Just read the book and do it. Pretty simple. Then when you are living an obedient life, the Spirit will be more likely to find a use for you and will tell you what to do.

Is not Biblical idolatry literally the worshipping of inanimate objects or false divine entities? Not TV, cell phones, sports, etc. That’s reading those in to the texts. Am I wrong?

Yes, forsaking sin is called repentance.
However, you lack the most important item. You must be born again.
Yes, Jesus died on that cross. Was buried, and rose again the third day.
In order to fully follow Jesus, you must repent, be baptised in Jesus name, and receive the Holy Ghost. Baptism puts you in the church. The Holy Ghost coupled with the word, keeps you in the church. And most important, you must fellowship with believers who also been baptized in Jesus name and filled with God's power.

Jesus didn’t come to specifically save us. He came to redeem the law of God after the accusations that Lucifer made in heaven, that Gods law was unfair. God was arbitrary, and his law was unable to be kept. And through it, all, he made a way of escape by his life, death and resurrection for us to be cleansed from sin. If we allow him into our heart to change is from the inside out, and as you were saying, we willingly and lovingly obey every command that God or Yashua gives us.
