Using Algebra Tiles in Middle School Math

This video is a tutorial on how to use algebra tiles in middle school math. I will show how to use algebra tiles to solve equations, to simplify integer operations problems (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers with algebra tiles), how to simplify expressions with algebra tiles, how to multiplying polynomials with algebra tiles, factoring quadratics with algebra tiles and a fun prime number vs. composite number investigation where we use cut paper squares. I also show how you can turn paper algebra tiles into a durable set that will last for years to come! I think that you will see how some of the topics covered will also relate to using algebra tiles in algebra 1 and even algebra 2. Algebra tiles are a perfect way to make math visual and hands-on. In the virtual classroom, algebra tiles can be used under a document camera to model for students and a printable set of tiles can be sent home to students to use remotely.

thank you! I do a lot of these and it is always great to learn a thing or two from somebody enthusiastic and convinced that visual/concrete learning is so good for understanding! I used coloured plastic board from the office supply shop to cut my tiles and for positive/negatives I glued red and green together (I do not have a laminator)

great way to create a concrete learning strategy for students - especially students who struggle and benefit from the visual

How do you print out the tiles so that they are one color on one side and another color on the other side?
