Before you say anything: Yeah, I know you're here because your teacher assigned this. We all are. Welcome to the club.

Time Stamps For/And Law Definitions And:

!!! WATCH THE VIDEO FIRST !!!

1:00 - Law Of Superposition, in an undisturbed sequence of rocks, the oldest rocks are on the bottom and the youngest rocks are on top.

1:35 - Law Of Crosscutting, any feature that cuts across a sequence of rocks, is younger than everything it cuts.

2:30 - Law Of Inclusions, any rock or fragment that's included inside of another rock is older than the rock which it is included.

Why the heck is everyone saying this is boring...it is just information being explained with simple examples...

Let’s see what you say is more boring, 2 hour of watching a monotone guy talking about geology for a 6 page essay...

You sir, have saved me from failing. No joke, doing all my makeup work in this week for 3 months worth of school. I owe my degree to you

In summary-

a.) Law of superposition: This law basically states that the age of rock depends on its position. If it is on the bottom it is the oldest, on the top, it is the youngest. This law and the others below are extremely important in relative rock dating.

b.) Law of crosscutting: This means that the rock material that intrudes or cuts through other, preexisting rock, is younger than anything it cuts through. The way my science teacher explained it was with the analogy of cutting a cake. If you cut a cake (the knife being the rock intrusion) the cake must exist before the knife can cut through it. Therefore the cake or the rock layers are older than the intrusion or the penetrating material.

c.) Law of Inclusions: This means that any rock included inside another rock is older than its surroundings.

Also thanks so much for the video, this was a great review for my quiz :)

if you need to explain the laws here you go. LAW OF SUPERPOSITION- In an undisturbed sequence the rock on the bottom is older than the rock on the top and the rock on the top is younger than the rock on the bottom. LAW OF CROSSCUTTING- Anything that cuts through rock is younger than said rock it cut through. LAW OF INCLUSIONS- Any rock inside of other rock is older than the rock its in. :)
