hey everyone,

hope this finds you well ….


for now though, something a bit special …. we’ve been working on this over the last few months and I’m delighted to finally be able to share it with you .

as soon as i wrote "beautiful birds" i felt like it would work really well as a male / female duet . i also kept on picturing an animated video for it . I’m so delighted that both ideas were able to come to fruition and i couldn’t be happier with how they have turned out .

massive thanks to the wonderful BIRDY for finding time to sing on this song . such an amazing talent and so easy and lovely to work with too .

a huge thanks also to Jess Cope, Adam Oehlers, Luke Simpson and Partizan for their incredible patience and for working so hard to make this video what it is .

For me this song speaks differently. Two people fell in love and they viewed everything with rose tinted glasses, seeing everything as perfection. All they could see was the good in one another, ignoring the faults they had. As time went by, their relationship became more rooted and it eventually bloomed. The colour of their relationship were compared to solid metals (silver and gold) indicating they were strong together, however, as we know silver and gold do not mix very well. They said they both said the wrong things to one another even though intent wasnt there, 'melody sharp, but words all wrong'. This was because interests differed, 'you asked for a different song, one I just couldnt sing'. Soon they lost their colour, as did their relationship. However, their love had not changed and they remained together understanding that relationships have their ups and downs and thereby accepting that it should not break their bond. They remained together building a beautiful nest, by picking apart the feathers from their chests. The pain inflicted on their hearts is what aged them and created their beautiful home.

This music for me indicates that nothing in life is perfect, not even your other half. In a relationship you both lose but still remain because neither can live without each other. In the beginning everything looks beautiful and attractive which eventually fades, but when you can stick together when it all fades is what counts in the end.

this song is simply beautiful. It portrays relationships and marriages so accurately. Meeting someone, growing with them and watching them change. Watching them become someone that wants more and more but you keep giving but in the end you can't quite give what the person wants, then they leave, then they come back because you were good to them and you have gone through alot together. So now the relationship is caged by the people they once were and trapped by the people they are now.

In a way, it shows how people can take up different personalities, just to keep up or compliment someone else, because, at first he was a green apple and she was a setting sun, then he became a golden summer sun (totally unrelated to being an apple) that complemented her previous setting sun, then she became a moon. When she realized he couldn't sing the song she wants, the way she wants it, he broke down and she left. He felt down for a while but she returned and he took her back. They decided to be honest with each other(plucking away their feathers) and they realized that their relationship was built on expectations and not their realities(feathers losing color) because they both tried to please each other instead of being themselves.
But because their love is strong enough, they were able to build something from their colorless reality and hope that with time their cage (relationship) grows and becomes beautiful. This is kind of beautiful in a way because, just as both their colors changed when they were seeing each other over time, hopefully, their cage(relationship) will gain color over time if they stick together.

Everybody talks about this like it's a happy ending.
I see this as two people who fell in love, everything was good and beautiful for a while, but then one of them changed, asking "for a different song"
The "plucking our feathers" I interpret as the couple giving up a large part of who they were as individuals for a relationship that wasn't healthy.
I think about my ex, and all the compromises we made to make a relationship work that wasn't meant to continue.
We built a beautiful cage, but eventually, in order to be free and beautiful as individuals again, we had to be apart.
We were better friends than we ever were as a couple.
Compromises are usually good and healthy, but you should never have to give up major pieces of who you are to be with someone who just isn't right for you.
Never compromise when one wants kids and the other doesn't for example. One of you is going to be miserable, whether the person who didn't want kids is forced to have them or the one who wanted kids is forced to live a life without them.
Don't hurt someone you love. If you have different life goals,
let each other go so you can both be happy, even if it isn't together.
Don't build a beautiful cage.
Find another bird you can fly free with, whose colors complement yours, and who loves every song you sing, even when you sing the words wrong.

this song reminds me of my first love. he always used to play this on his guitar especially over a phone call and i would surely fall asleep peacefully. we broke up 3yrs ago, and i just saw his ig stories playing this and the song that became our theme song coz thats where it all began. im so happy and proud of what he's become and now that we have our different relationships, he'll still have a special place here in my heart, forevermore and always.

The two had a love that was vibrant and unique, they truly loved each other. One day, one asked the other to be someone they were not. They loved the other so they tried, but failed.

Out fell the feathers one-by-one that at first made them unique and fall in love with each other as they try and morph into what the other wanted them to be. However, this caused them to loose their unique "colors" and become different from what they fell in love with in the first place; trapped in a relationship with someone they no longer know.

I think that when you find the right one, you'll fall in love with them more than once. When you find something new about them or even if they change, you fall for them once more or even harder. Love is growing together and closer by consequence. For me that's what the song is all about, because they didn't know that those hardships would build the foundations to their beautiful cage.
