My personal theory is that intelligent alien life does exist in the universe, but humans are the most technologically advanced which is why we've never made contact with any of them. It would be like someone traveling back in time then trying to call Alexander Graham Bell with their cellphone; the technology is similar but too advanced to communicate.

The underlying point, that space is large, distances are huge and dangerous, is true, but the actual argument: that few planets are worth settling, thus no one would expand through space, is wrong.

Yes, almost no planets are going to be truly “earth like”… but why bother with planets?

If you have the technology to make generation spaceships that can last thousands of years, you can make multi-kilometer space stations that can mimic earth like environments and be made on site, which can last thousands of years (or more) because that’s what a generation ship is, kinda.

A generation ship would have earthlike environments to sustain humans, and, generally speaking, larger is better because you can’t really get resources in the middle of flight, so you need to have a huge fleet to begin with. People fear space stations breaking down and such, from meteoroids and such or people inside, but a successful generation spaceship is going to have that far, far worse than any standard space station - they’re flying at the fastest they reasonably can through space, needing huge shields and repair systems, as opposed to a hab station which would normally passively orbit a planet or the sun. The generation spaceship would have new children born who didn’t actually choose to go on the journey, which could cause societal problems and mutiny… while a space station can just let people leave to go somewhere else in the star system.

There’s no reason why you’d focus colonization efforts on dangerous poison worlds, even for something as benign as a barren planet, when you can make O’Neill cylinders or a 10 thousand kilometer McKendree Cylinder.

People always think about colonizing the stars in terms of “colonizing planets”, but while understandable (ya know, we live on one), it doesn’t actually make sense if you are Kardashev 2 civilization.

It would be like going to a new continent but absolutely refusing to build houses, instead only clinging to naturally formed caves or burrows. Claiming that because there are no caves to live in at a fertile plain, it’s actually worthless to live there. That the idea of constructing houses is just too much work, and they’re so liable to break apart compared to naturally formed caves anyways.

And that’s making the assumption that the beans that live on his planets are a carbon base and B can’t survive in those hellish plants

But here is the kicker it takes two years to get to Mars and once every two years nine months, but Venus, we can get there in under a year I think six months and if we were able to build a base on Venus, it’s like 22 miles above the surface, we’d actually find that theair pressure was the same as earth
