My mistake was the opposite -- just started Keto a few weeks ago, and I kept my fat consumption pretty low in order to burn my own copious stores of fat. It worked for a while until it didn't, and then when I carefully increased my fat intake, I began to lose weight again and feel energetic.

I have been on the keto diet for 6 years in the first 6 months lost 60lbs then lost the rest over the next 6 months and now I do keto for 10 weeks then have week break don't go mad on sugar or carbs when on the break but I have a few treats. when I started my new diet/lifestyle I was 260lbs at 5ft6inch female now I am 165lband have been this weight consistently for the last 5yrs I have lost the weight without upping my activity levels as I have back hip and ankle issues. this diet has worked for me I find it an easy plan to stick to. As far as the fat in the diet, i can honestly say that I didn't over indulge my diet is mostly protein like chicken with the skin or pork or fish eggs cheeses and green veggies I don't like red meats the only thing I miss when on the diet is bread lol but that's what treat week is for.

Thanks to your videos on IF I finally realized that my body is always keto adapted and I need to cut fats not keep adding more!!! I’m finally losing weight again and actually feeling the effects of ketosis. Thank you for all of your recommendations and your content Dr. !

Hello Dr Berg. Watching loads of your videos from the UK. Have been eating a Kito diet for a few days now and am amazed by the lack of hunger I feel throughout the day. It's very early days, but I can already feel that this way of eating has huge potential. Thanks so much for all your great content - short, snappy and well explained throughout. Thank you;)

My own experience:
1. You end up eating too little calories (and while losing weight, wreck yourself metabolically). Fix: eat more (veggies, not just fat)
2. You eat way too low carbs (totally kills free testosterone in men during longer ketosis i.e. for months at an end. You can also get sub-clinical hypothyroidism this way and reduce the healthy gut mucous lining resulting in a leaky gut risk). Fix: if your sleep, recovery or sex drive turns problematic, time to feed more low GI carbs (for some carb loading for night works)
3. Not enough salt or too much sodium (causing electrolyte imbalances and you get extremely painful keto cramps). Fix: All important. Don't just do table salt
4. Train too glycolytic (hard/fast, not sustained/long) sports and just bonk totally (well duh, all glycose reseves in muscles are depleted from ketosis). Up your carbs or reduce HIIT
5. Destroy your sleep (too much energy, hormone regulation can get out of whack in deep long ketosis). Fix: if you got this far, you need to fix yourself ASAP. This can be a hole, from which it can take months to dig yourself out of. Take it seriously. Up the carbs, track your sleep.

Been there, done those, got the scars to prove it.

There are many good books that actually tell you how to measure your own individual carb tolerance and how to still keep in ketosis. This can vary a lot (50g for some, 250g/d for another). Don't just read one book and assume the guidance there is what is ideal for _you_.

I went crazy on fats when I started but then I realized I wasn't losing the weight. I realized that I must be burning the fat as energy and not my own fat stores.I went back to not worrying about the fats, just adding butter to my veggies and stuff like that. I stopped drinking bullet proof coffee and adding fats to everything just to get enough fats that everyone said I needed to have. I am still not hungry and do 24 fasts twice a week with no problem.

I never calculated calories, I heard that the guys inventing the calorie tables admitted they were dead wrong... but nobody listened, so easy to count and stick to a agreed upon setting. I simply use my commun sense, and I listen to my body... and Lil just goes smoothly in the right direction
