👍 Try this DYNAMIC Thumb Stretch to Reduce Thumb Pain 🔥

I like to call this thumb stretch the ‘Butterfly hug’. 🦋
The reason is because your starting position is making a butterfly with your hands but then you end the stretch by giving your thumb a hug to your chest. 🤗
This is NOT your typical stretch. There is NO pulling or pushing your thumb to painful end ranges of motion. ❌
It’s hard to stretch your thumb when you have arthritis. You end up pulling on important stabilizing ligaments such as at your MP joint (or the middle joint of the thumb).
With this stretch, your focus is lower at the base of the thumb as I show on the skeleton hand. 🦴
To do this ‘stretch’, you place all 4 of the fingers of your other hand over the entire base of your thumb and lightly press your fingers into your chest.
Essentially giving your thumb a hug. 👍
There are modifications and ways to make this more dynamic such as gently rocking your thumb with your fingers or providing light traction by lightly pulling on your thumb.
But this stretch is meant to feel good! ✅ You shouldn’t feel pain with your thumb arthritis stretches.
