The Dance of the Dragons would have started much earlier if Rhaenys, on the behalf of Laenor, would have been voted. The reason is that Daemon raised an army in case if his brother, Viserys, lost the vote. Daemon was willing to coup Jahaerys to make his brother heir to the Iron Throne. It is funny to think being scared of Daemon was one of the reasons why some lords voted Viserys.

In the books the final succession claims were between Viserys and Laenor (Rhaynes’ son). Viserys won because the lords favored the male line of inheritance, over the female line. Also Laenor was only 8 or 9 years old, while Viserys was 24.

I wish they kept this intro music throughout the show. It fits so much better then the game of thrones theme

The book this show is based on is called Fire & Blood and has four major stories.

The first is the Targaryen's leaving Valariya, Aegon's Conquest, all the way to his death.

The second is his son Aenys dying and his children being usurped by his brother Maegor, who is overthrown by his nephew Jaherys (The old king in this video.)

The third is primarily about Jaherys' long 55 year rule bringing a long era of prosperity and peace to Westeros, but during that time he lives to see all of his children die prematurely.

The fourth is the main plot of House of the Dragon, the Targaryen civil war, refered to as The Dance of the Dragons.
