Can AI help stop mass shootings?

So what happens if the shooter is actually already in the school, for example a student. Then if detected it might lockdown the school making it difficult for the children to escape.

Perhaps AI technology should be directed at Social Media also, this is where many of these people tend to telegraph their intentions before hand. If key words sentences, pictures or video are flagged on FB or Twitter then it can be done.

This system could be great however it might need to be tied into facial recognition software as well to allow children/staff to exit the building safely while the shooter is denied access. Honestly a "mantrap" at the entrance of schools like a bank may not be a bad idea either (though yes some gun control is also a very good option)

I think this is a great use of technology! For those complaining saying that it should be equipped with guns is stupid, because what if responders are called on site and they get shot down??? A lot of you guys don’t look that far ahead or use critical thinking.

You say “arm the teachers”, yet many teachers refuse to arm themselves because it holds a lot of responsibilities. Anyways, political arguments aside, I think this is the best next thing to restricting guns! Americans don’t want to restrict guns, but how can we solve this unique American problem?


AI technology is bound to advance so not only will AI technology be able to detect guns before they’re fired, but also AI can be implemented to track individuals with concerning search history and comments on social media. AI can help with strengthening our red flag laws!


There needs to be a better solution than “arm yourself”. Im sorry but many of you guys who will face an active shooter situation, may not be able to think fast enough or act fast enough when there are 90 bullets a minute coming at you. That is the reality- not a political argument.

Technology is not an exact science as time is key...which is a no brainer. How does this work for people holding water pistols or colorful nerf guns?

How about putting a small classroom for police officers to be on campuses and anybody going to a school should show identification at the gate before the let on the grounds unless they're jumping over the fence we need somebody there guarding our children

Nah the cameras should have guns on them and when a gun is spotted it's shoots in that direction some might say what if it's someone innocent and I say why would they have a gun in a school?

It is feasible only if campus is sterile means school will need airport standard security for entering. AI will definitely help one day but at present CS( common sense) is required utmost. Terrorist and criminals will do what if a child having access to loaded gun, only CS can stop it
