the martian was surprisingly accurate up until the the scene when he breaks his suit and uses the depressurization as a rocket to propel him. he would of most likely ended up spinning uncontrollably to the point of throwing up and possibly passing out because the g-force would of been more intense in the zero gravity environment. similar to the way they generated gravity on the space ship by rotating it . but it dosent take much speed to produce earth gravity so spinning uncontralubly would've produces a lot of G-force.

The Martian was accurate because Watney is a scientist who is a smartass who constantly jokes and whose only two emotions are "amateur comedian" and "oh my god I'm going to die." It was _inaccurate_ because most of the time his jokes were actually funny.

I have firsthand knowledge on this subject.

I removed in the book weir said they created some kind of radiation shielding material in the Hab, Rover, Hermes and the EVA suits.

SPOILERS: I preferred the book because of the silly ending in the film where the Iron-man joke that gave commander Lewis the idea for extra thrust was taken seriously, but when I listen to it I picture the cast of the movie because they were awesome.

i'm not sure but i think the fact he walks around kind of normally is supposed to be due to weights in his suit, says in the book, allthough it shouldn't be like that in the mars station, also somebody told me that martian soil is full of micro dust that would eventually kill you by being constantly breathed in

I'm sorry, your claiming he got the water for his crops from the soil itself? No... He combined hydrogen and oxygen to create water by burning rocket fuel. They even show him doing this - it's not just something from the book.

great but they cut out a lot of the swearing from the book but if they hadn't it would have been r rated

Still waiting for my big rotating wheel in the sky human habitat! We floated to the moon, in the ISS and, apparently, to Mars @ 2023, if the planned Orion space program recently announced takes off. People returning from even a 4-5 month visit to the ISS have considerable bone and muscle density loss. But a Martian mission possibly lasting 4 years, anyone making the trip will be in bad shape upon their return to Earth's gravity and pressure. I'm sure JPL scientists will claim it's science fiction but so was walking on the moon.

I think it was a lame and poor adaptation of a really interesting concept. They destroyed all the interesting part, which is Watney and made a film 90% about the team on earth trying to save him. They skipped all the real path and the hard though and hard work, turning Watney into a lame secondary character.

Aside science facts, this movie is fun but nothing more. It's not overdramatic, yes but maybe the subject demands a small amount of drama. Here I followed the story without any engengement towards the characters, I didn't car at all. Damon cold die, I would feel nothing. All that money for that...
