Not really safe.... if you hold a resistor with your fingers and short a big capacitor you will definitely burn your finger. Some resistor even blast. Safer way to do it is to connect a multimeter and select a voltage higher than the one stored by the capacitor and simply measure the voltage. The multimeter will measure a pick voltage and will suddenly drop, no spark, no heat, not danger.

yea dont do it with the flat head worst thing you could do and when he says it could be little spark really take into account he said "could" ive done this and it was a very very big one because i followed his advice

Watching this, then I would assume that in handling a board like this, I'd watch out for putting my thumb over the two terminals while holding it...no?Or, how about those much large caps on hifi gear, or old radios? Would you use the same technique or something safer? On big hifi caps, is it safe to hold a resister like that to terminate the caps? Should I be using a much bigger resistor...etc....

An LED diode would be good also. you would know its fully discharged when the light dies

Not true. A small capacitor can hold much more voltage than one the size of a coke can. Check the voltage rating of the capacitor.

Please stop giving bad advices.
Never use s screw driver to discharge caps. You will damage the cap and other components as well.
Use a resistor with a big value and wattage, don't hold it with bare hands, hold it with an insulated wire

Creating a dead short with a screwdriver is a good way to short out your board. This guy failed Electronics Tech 101.

This dudes trying to teach people how to hurt themselves. Lmao. Yes you are Indeed discharging the caps, but not safely. So little Johnny learns this is okay, and tries it with a bigger farad cap. Little Johnny is no longer with us today.
