I love these kinds of lists. Examining mechanisms make me really think about the games I own and am drawn to... and which ones I really need to stop buying, lol. My favorites are virtually the same as yours, except for trick taking.

Your game mechanics are informative and are helping me with my game design. Thank you.

Wonderlands War is a fantastic bag building game!! Super fun video, love the recommendations!

Hyperborea is an often-overlooked bag builder. Worth tracking down, along with the expansion.

This was really, really helpful. We have played tons of games in the past couple years now, but I still don't understand a lot about categories. I think classifying is important because it helps me understand which games we're drawn to. There are definitely categories I don't know much about. I don't think I have any bag building games. I was wondering, would 7 Wonders be simultaneous interaction? Probably Bunny Kingdom too. Engine-building is something I had not understood before. I can see how I have confused it with deck building because it sounds similar in a way (you're winding up with something a lot better/more powerful). I think Ark Nova is an example of Engine Building with the updated cards. Is Tableau a type of engine building? Now I'm so curious about stuff. XD

Engine building is by FAR my favorite mechanism. My top pics recently are Furnace, TM Ares Expedition, It's A Wonderful World/Kingdom, Masters of Renaissance

So pleased you use the correct term in the title, at least.
Thank you.

I'm a huge fan of asymmetric powers. Really asymmetry in general (could be in scenario, starting assets etc.), though that may be too broad to count as a "mechanic".

This got me thinking about where I actually would draw the line between what is a "game mechanism" and what is simply a "game genre". Of course, it overlaps, and it's natural to categorize games by their main mechanisms, but at the same time, I think you can arrive at a point when a term is so broad it becomes something else. I guess there's no real right or wrong, but a part of me feels that there's so much that fits within something like "engine building" that it makes me reluctant to even view it as a "single" mechanism but rather something bigger built up of a set of mechanisms (which maybe describe what happens more in detail?). It's just a gut feeling.

I have no idea what my fav mechanic is. Worker placement has just been over saturated.

These guys don't look like serious board gamers :P

Bluffing. Poker, Perudo, netrunner.
You missed the most obvious #1 which is Victory Point scoring. It's so over used and ubiquitous that's practically a given to be found in all games.
I'd much rather have a achievement based win like Innovation.

I hate to be THAT guys… but engine building is not a mechanic. Look at terraforming mars on BGG and you’ll see “engine building” not listed under mechanics.
