I think a great example for updating the map is RDR2. Arthur or John draw interesting places, animals and plants on the map as you explored them. Anf obviously the journal with both guys having a different style of drawing and writting. It's amazing.

The first time you see the building fall in battlefield and then realize the flag point still exists but it's now just in rubble AND completely playable still...is absolutely amazing

Also in ps4 Spider-Man, if you're on the phone with somebody while swinging through the city, you'll sound out of breath, while if you're just standing on a rooftop or whatever, you talk normally. Tiniest detail, but very satisfying to notice.

One of the first games that I can recall handles ladders well is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Not only did it allow for sliding down ladders, but it also let the Prince climb on a ladder from any direction, and then had him flip around to whichever side he'd need to be on at the top. That was huge, because there were absolutely games that you could climb up on the wrong side and then have to go back down and try again.

Ladders have improved immensely over the years.

In Days Gone caring for your bike and making sure you had enough gas to make it from A to B was a really fun part of the experience. It connected you more to your bike and the world around you.

for the physics part, I just loved how in legend of zelda botw you have all the metal objects that are not only can be dragged by your powerful magnet, but also conductors, that can transfer electricity not only when you hit by lightning, but in the dungeons when you need to continue electric wires by metal blocks, you can also put there you metal armor or sword

Stopping and really considering them, I think number 3 has probably made the biggest impact (in enjoyment) for me. The frustration coming from just bouncing off a ledge & falling to your death, or being stopped by some puny object when you're chasing/escaping-from something, just really takes you out of the game. (Especially for games where it's more about the story and not challenging every little aspect of your gaming ability).

Little known fact about the dying light one is that cutting off zombie parts is NOT cosmetic, simply cutting off one arm means they can no longer bite, cutting off both will mean they can only headbutt, and cutting off a leg instantly sends them to the ground where you can decimate them with a finisher

About the realistic looting. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, you can loot everything from an enemy, every piece of armour he is wearing - and it can even be damaged due to your hits on him during the fight - the food, everything. Down to the shirts and shoes. It is amazing. And you can equip everything you loot and not just sell it.

I really like games with realistic reloads like Insurgency and Ready or Not. If you reload with half a clip left, that half full clip goes back into your inventory

Besides the sliding down a ladder (the ladder in the final level of Psychonauts being one of my favorites, visually) being able to jump on to a ladder and start climbing is an excellent mechanic. Also being actually locked onto a ladder is comforting, knowing that you won't accidently fall off if you move too much to the side.

2B from Nier: Automata had a particularly slick ladder-descending slide animation. Very satisfying to watch her swing to the side of the ladder and do a one-handed slide.

when i was a kid i used to play the original red faction game on splitscreen and we would use the fusion launcher to blast a hole all the way through the walls of one of the multiplayer maps' cliffs so we could meet in the middle. amazing memories, thanks for reminding us

Realism can be amazing more than it can be bad, imo

Great vid! Just to mention that the "last known position" mechanic I really learned to exploit in Far Cry 1 (2004), so waaay earlier than Splinter Cell Conviction (2010).

I truly admire your ability to come up with content. I have been on a huge binge watching all your content and you guys have literally no boring videos. I have been watching videos you guys made 5 years ago and all of them have the same quality and are very entertaining. Like I said I admire this channel one of the best in all Youtube.
