Heey as someone who has kept plants for years the biggest part is learning different plant types. The ferns that you like are Java ferns and are rhizome plant meaning you don’t plant them. They rot in the dirt/sand. You need to glue them to things like drift wood !

Haha see poor Tommy in the background cleaning the fly river tank just looking over at PC scraping the tank thinking - Yay! Another bloody tank for me to maintain… Well it’s all right Tommy we all know Paul is the talent in front of the camera but it’s really you with your tireless work ethic who keeps all the gears grinding on the farm while Paul & Finatic are off gallivanting all over the country just living it up! You never complain, you don’t seek accolades for the back breaking work you do, you just get it done. What a LEGEND you are Tommy! I hope Paul at least lets you go for a swim in the pool after a hard days work mate. Three cheers for Tommy everyone!🎷👏👏👏

Anubias dont need to be planted in substrate, they feed from the water column, same as java fern. You should stick them in cracks and crevices of driftwood and rocks etc. Plants like amazon swords do well in the substrate

Oh god, he really needs help or advice setting up planted tank. Wow it's really bad. No hate he just doesn't know. You got plants in there which you don't plant in to substrate, like the anubius and ferns, you need driftwood and rocks. You put the long plants/stems at the back. Please get an aqua scapper to help you set it up.

Hey paul, I've been doing planted tanks for a long time, any plant tastes has ryzomes like the anubias and java fern will die if baried, I hope u see this so u dont waste money on plants! U can tie them to wood or rocks or glue and they will do great that way

I usually take that same dirt works great and I put it in mesh zip bags. I stack them in areas of the tank where the plants are growing so they have some substrate to grow in. Works good by not making your water dirty and makes it easier to remove from the tank if you do a lot of changes to your landscape. You just pick up the mesh bags and can rinse the dirt off for your next aquascape. Then I cover with sand that transitions into gravel, place my wood structure and then plants. If done right you can go years without having to adjust your water chemistry or clean since the plants keep the water crystal clear. I like to buy hundreds of ghost shrimps as my cleaners and good food source.

Bro! Don’t plant the Java ferns in the soil they will rot and die. They need to be glued to rocks/wood

In my planted tank, I have at the very bottom big ball Fluval soil followed by a layer of the smaller balls. I didn’t bother with sand because in my opinion it took away the natural scape appeal. Keep in mind, you need a good 4 inch layer of soil in my opinion to support all of those plants growth.

Most fish will munch on your plants, so keep that in mind with your fish selection.

All plants with rhizomes must be glued to drift wood or rocks etc. any roots buried will die.

I hope you read other comments explaining this

Hey Paul! I don’t know if you remember me from the meet and greet, I had the gecko shirt that was like jaws! I am glad to tell you my mom has beat cancer and loves the shirt! Thank you for being so entertaining while I was at a sad point in my life. ❤

i love how Paul's so happy with himself after doing a planted aquarium. but has no idea he's got it so wrong. 😅. hey if people didnt make mistakes, we wouldn't learn anything. PC is still the best though 👌

It's so refreshing to see freshwater stuff. I feel like it's so much more relatable to a good portion of people in the hobby

The OG community tank that you had at your parents was what initially made me start watching this channel, so I am so excited to see something like that coming back because that tank was absolutely gorgeous

You should call the goldfish MONK, because he seems to love living in the temple!! 🤣🤣 What a beautiful freshwater tank!! I really hope that you see the comments from the plant experts though, I really want this tank to thrive!! 💜💜💜

I absolutely love that black substrate. Amazing for the plants. I did however put it in aquarium bags they’re knitted so the plants can grow right through them. It also stops it from mixing with the sand keeps your tank pretty.

Glue the java ferns and anubias to rocks and driftwood, fluval stratum is great. Look into some of your plants and get a grow light for freshwater aquarium plants. The bamboo needs the roots hung into the tank until it's tall enough to reach out of the water, i have bamboo planted and growing out of my 60 breeder.

I know you didn't ask but some good recommendations that would look amazing in the community tank is Orange Ember Tetras for one, they pop with all of the live plants, Blue phantom plecos look amazing and love real wood and bamboo shrimp are always an awesome addition and are filter feeders they just only live about 2 years unfortunately!

Im so glad you got the Fluval Stratum. It is SO good for the PH of your Aquarium, and for the health of your plants.
