How to Install Steam Games on SD Card –Install Steam External Hard Drive

If you play Steam on your laptop, at some point, you might need more space to download more games, especially if you have a laptop with a small hard drive. My Acer Switch 10 only has 32GB of built-in memory which is really easy to fill up. But I can use a SD card to install and play my games on. And with any game installed, all in-app purchases or DLCs will also be saved to the SD card.

Once the game is downloaded, you can start playing your game knowing that you aren’t filling up your main hard drive anymore! One last thing, game performance may vary depending on the configuration of your computer but you can easily try it out if you have an extra SD card lying around.

I hope you enjoyed this video and if you did please give me a thumbs up and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel TheRenderQ for more how-to videos and product reviews.

For me, it didn't let me see the folder that it would install in, it didn't seem to really register it.

but if you play a game installed on the microSD on the PC, isn't there a risk that the SD itself will merge?

I did this, but when I tried to install a game it said that I had 0 bytes available even though I haven’t used card yet

FYI with the new UI you need to go to storage and it’s under that tab now

Thanks for the video, what kind of SD card are you using because i tried the same thing on a Samsung EVO class10 128GB and the download of the game on that SD card was extremely slow!
