Why build a DIY RepRap 3d printer and what type.

If you like to make things you should consider building your own 3D printer instead of purchasing one. Also there are two main types of 3D printers, the more common Cartesian printer and then Delta.

Build instrucions, BOM, and STL files can be found here:

In your arguments between Delta, and Cartesian you pointed out the mass of your moving axis, but that was a comparison between a type of Cartesian motion that has that specific issue as opposed to the two forms of kinematics as a whole.

I bought two garbage printers. Found a deal on a printer that can reproduce itself. Including electronic instructions, troubleshooting photos, etc. He bought it for $1, 800 and is selling to me for $200. Completely lucked out! Now I can build my own shop, so I AM RESEARCHING!

What if you used the rep-rap printer to build 10 mini rep-rap printers with some extra filiment that is 10x as big? Then those 10 mini-printers could build 10 mini-printers and you would have 100 mini-mini printers 100x smaller. Then do it again and again. You could get 1 billion printers at 1 billionth the size, enough to build fabrics or nano-analog computers...

Great video! i spent a few weeks in my spare time building a Kossel Mini from scratch. I took my time with it and made sure measurements correct for all three axis and made sure all uprights were correct angle etc. I got it printing nice however it would print a 100mm cube with a slight curve in two sides and i was unable to get it to print measurement accurate so my 20mm calibration cube was always slightly off one way or another no matter what i tweaked. I also made my effector rods on a jig to make sure they were all the same length. I ended up dismantling the printer since it was useless to me because of the issues, i still have all the parts and would love to build another however there are so many calibration tutorials out there i don't know which one to believe and just ended up more confused than when i started ;)

What do you think about kits like the Prusa i3 MK2S as a starter? It's a bit more expensive than sourcing your own parts, but it has proven quality and it's cheaper to buy a kit as oppose to a pre-built so you get the fun of assembling.

The conclusion I've drawn is that 3d printers are for model makers really. I look around the room and I can't really see many practical everyday objects I could print.

Are delta printers really faster than cartesian printer? Why?

4 years ago: "3D printing is not a mainstream..." :) yeah well...

So you say you should build your own 3D printer but you used your 3D printer to print parts to make the next one....kinda chicken and egg scenario there
