The Barbary pirates of North Africa attacked the coastal northern Mediterranean launching attacks against Britain, France, Italy and Sicily. In their feverish search for slaves a few pirates even went as far as the coast of Iceland, raiding inland to kidnap people and bring them back to North Africa.
From the 1500s to the 1800s it is estimated that one million white Europeans, to include those captured at sea as well as through land raids abroad were enslaved. A lot of people don't know of the Irish Slave Trade.

In the 1620s and 1640s, the coasts of Cornwall and Devon in England, as well as Southern Ireland, were subjected to slave raids by barbary corsairs, who raided the coasts after having attacked ships outside of the coasts. Women were particularly prioritised as captives by the corsairs. Agricultural peasants were taken in large numbers.

The Balkan trade predates the Barbary trade by centuries, it was also on a much, much larger scale. What is rarely mentioned is it continued into the 20th century. During the collapse of communism and the Balkan war - the break up of Yugoslavia. Female were trafficked around the world to Istanbul, western Europe, the middle east etc
