The game isnt good. the fanbase bitching and complaining about the reviews doesn't make it any better. And for those that say this game is better than odyssey, you're comparing a game that can be played in multiple ways with hours of exploration, to a game whose only gameplay consists of "the boost mechanic" and a custom character with weapons that make this easy game easier. I gave this game a chance and it did not deliver.

Here's my thoughts coming from a huge Sonic fan both in 2D and especially 3D...

SEGA and/or Sonic Team lack proper direction and ambition. 4 years of waiting and we get the laziest 3D Sonic game. The game isn't bad, but everything felt underdeveloped and falls short of its full potential. From story, to stage design, to stage and game length...

This game does NOTHING to progress the series forward. I like the story, but the pacing felt too fast and I felt like it was missing so much. Like, it felt like Sonic Forces was a full arc of an anime but we're playing a game adaptation akin to Naruto Storm 4.

Stage design was lacking as expected. Though, there we're moments that we're dope asf and then moments that were fuu asf. Modern Sonic was fun for the most part, but had so many levels that were just straight corridors. This game is more boost2win than any of the previous games.

Classic's physics and momentum we're all the way off. Couple that with meh stage design and you have the worst character in this game. Completely unnecessary inclusion to pander to nostalgia and utterly fail because Mania is better in every way.

Custom character is actually better than I expected. It was fun, but his midair controls were off as fuck making platforming a fucking issue in a lot of cases. Other than that, the customization was great and there were fun, but of course SHORT levels.

The villains in this game were WASTED potential, like fuck. You only fight Zavok and Metal Sonic once, and Infinite three times. Nothing with Shadow or Chaos. And the bosses that were there were bad to decent at the most. This was one of my most anticipated features...

Even with all that, like I said, the game straight. Its a 6/10. But THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. And this game was more important than SEGA/Sonic Team thought. We can't be taking no budget ass game when its been 4 years since the last game and 6 YEARS since the last one that was great.

It's clear as fucking day that they aren't taking this series seriously. Its fucking unacceptable when Mario is getting these GOTYs and Sonic is reduced to just being alright. That's not the Sonic I know and love. That's not the Sonic ANYONE knows and loves.

Most of the bad games in this series at least had an idea they were trying to do. Something they wanted to accomplish, but due to missteps, they couldn't achieve. Just look at Sonic 06. Concept-wise, this game could've been the GREATEST game in the series, but fell really short.

This game felt like it was made to be a budget middleware title with some great ideas and concepts. I'm disappointed in both Sonic Team and SEGA. And there needs to be change in order for this series to evolve. But, i doubt that will ever happen because they DON'T care.

What makes Sonic forces even more sad is Sonic Mania wasn't made by Sonic team, it was made by a guy SEGA got to port Sonic the hedgehog, sonic the hedgehog 2 and sonic they got beat by a dude who just remasters and ports games for them. Let that sink in.

Sonic may have spewed garbage lines, but at least don't blame Roger. The new writers began with Colors, so naturally he's have garbage dialogue for years. Even if Jason was still here, he would have probably dropped in quality beginning with Colors, though he would've been amazing in Sm4sh.

Funnily enough, Sakurai asked him to voice Sonic and they got some lines done before SEGA pulled the plug and asked Sakurai to reuse Roger lines from existing games.

I want to say Ryan may have helped, but by this point in time, people need to let that guy go. Sonic Team disrespected this guy so much that it hurts.

Whatever he's doing, he's in a much better place than Roger who probably gets close to as much hate as love for his role. Ryan would surely get love, but it's hard to say since he may have voiced some horrendous lines with the new writers. When he was voicing Sonic, the creator was still there.

The game is really fun. However Classic Sonic feels weird, the Avatar is hard to control, and Modern Sonic's stages are too short. I don't really care for level design but if I did it's pretty meh. 3/5 for me.
