Jane Austen’s heroes were dashing because we can project so much onto them.

I reread P&P every so many years. Its a warm cup of tea and blanket.

I love the dialog. As for character descriptions, I believe JA was right to keep them vague. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, no matter the time period. Also, when you must envision the characters for yourself, you are really investing more in the book than just simply reading a story.

Yeah. Chapter 2. I didn't realize the chapters are so short. And thank you so much for interpreting what is going on in the chapter. Not that I would love to also rewatch your older videos.

I read P&P every winter, but opted for Persuasion this last time around. I appreciate being able to listen to you read it.

It's SO LOVELY to see you again, Ellie!!! I've missed watching your videos (I hope you're doing well). If you're up for it at some point, can you *please* to an analysis video of Persuasion and Anne/Wentworth's love story? I'd love to hear your take on my faves lol!

Hi Ellie, you're bringing back memories of how short these Ch were. I like Jane's dialog as she gives you just enough to bring you in. Im with your commentor in the Live chat...Mr Darcy's 💓 description was just right. You did a rather impressive Live!😍 Seems you're getting the hang of it.🤩🤩🤩

Yay, chapter 2! Another great installment. And I really enjoyed the commentary. Austen was probably wise in being vague. Although, she could have originally described him and during the editorial process it was taken out; I thought she said in a letter P&P was "lopt and cropt" for publication. :) I always wondered what she took out.

So many good nuggets in this chapter. Mr. Bennet is so clever and yet kind of mean.

I came here just to comment while I watch on my TV. Ellie, I love this so much! For one thing, I haven't found a good audio book version of P&P. For another thing, the notes you're sharing are like food for my brain. I really appreciate and enjoy it. I've thought about starting a podcast about Austen's books and I love the intellectual side of it. You read beautifully!

Aww, I missed another live stream because I didn't know it was happening. 😢 I'm not sure how far in advance you plan when you're going to do these, but maybe if we can get some sort of notice even that morning here on YouTube like "Just letting you know I'm planning on reading the next chapter of Pride & Prejudice this afternoon at about x:xx time" that would be nice and maybe help a few more people show up.

Jane Austen was a dialogue-first writer--so the anti-George Lucas then. 😂 Honestly, I think it's the lack of detailed description that helps make Jane Austen's works so timeless. That may not have even been her intention when she was so vague on details.

I think Mrs Bennet could have called on Miss Bingley (Bingley’s unmarried sister) theoretically, as the book says that she is there to keep house for her brother (which makes her the hostess).

But Miss Bingley had not arrived at Netherfield at the time, and we do not know of her existence in Chapter 2. Miss Bingley and Mrs Hurst arrive in Chapter 3 with Darcy and appear at the ball at Merryton.

I just missed it when it went live, but will be happy to listen at leisure. I love your voices for the characters, and when you have the whole book complete I will probably download the audio to just listen as an audiobook. Also, LOVE the pink Yeti mic! So cute! 🐱

I may have missed that, but do you have a schedule for the live reading ? Loves the reading and the discussion after even more ❤
