I want to start this video off by saying that our gut's good bacteria, bad bacteria, our entire biome in our guts is a very, very complex thing and we're only starting to scratch the surface on what it can do for us and what we can do for it. But in this video, I want to help clear some things up. I want to explain how gut bacteria plays a big role in our immune system and how by taking care of our guts, we truly can reduce the instances of how often we get sick and how we can truly help our bodies be in the best position possible to get in amazing shape, but also feel absolutely great.

So let's talk about what is happening in the gut for a second. Okay. We have a plethora of different bacteria in the gut, usually falling under two categories.

The lactobacillus group, and we have the bifidobacteria group. Now, within these two groups, there are thousands of different subspecies of bacteria that do a multitude of different things within the body, but at the end of the day, they really comprise our immune system and they comprise the ability to digest and break down food. In fact, I'm not sure if you knew this, but 80% of our immune system is actually in our guts.

Now, it may not have always been this way, but we're evolving as a species to where bacteria and overall health of our gut biome is super critical to our immune system, and it's not just a matter of good bacteria fighting with bad bacteria, going to battle. It's a matter of how this good bacteria and bad bacteria reacts with a very specific cell in our intestinal track. These are called epithelial cells.

Now, the epithelial cells normally are thought of as the cells that start to absorb food and help facilitate the breakdown and absorption. And they do. But a bigger piece of what they do as far as the immune system is concerned, is they actually interact with bacteria to modulate our immune system and modulate different responses.

6:35 I keep these in the car, primarily use them after I goto the gas station or if I touch public things ( door knobs, bathroom, etc. ) never at home.

I've been toying with keto foods for a few months, basically cutting down on carbs, not doing hardcore keto or anything, and I haven't been ill once, haven't needed ibuprofen for various things. It's all in the gut.

I did parasite cleanse after years of eating things that had parasite eggs in it like sushi, lets just say i had to do it twice lol. And took probiotics while on it and skin problems i had and mood issues..disappeared. I dont know if you have a video on parasites. Dont google pictures, youll have nightmares. And a cleanse thats not antibiotics. Your videos made me rework my kitchen system, thanks for all the great healthy knowledge.

Great video. I got a c diff infection from taking antibiotics for a sinus infection. I didn’t know c diff was a gram negative bacteria and that’s what makes it so resistant to antibiotics.

I'm a strong believer in probiotics for myself and children. I noticed a difference around a month after starting probiotics and noticed how much more resistant I was to sickness and if I was sick, it was a quick recovery. I started giving probiotics to my kids and when everyone in their class is sick at home, they aren't affected! When they were sick (stomach virus), it has always been a quick recovery. We've been taking probiotics everyday for about 2 years now. Anyone who reads this should give it a try. (side note) this will sound gross, but I my stomach always feels amazing after #2 happens. Can't explain why though. I'm guessing it has to do with the bacteria.

I love your content for myself and this video peaked my interest for my son who is 6 and has several food allergies. I'm wondering if you could do a video on probiotics/best practice for nutrition for people with food allergies and high histamine responses? He is highly allergic to all tree nuts, peanuts, milk, and egg! I just want him to be safe and do everything I can to help him develop the best he can.
