This actually worked! My hood release has been really tough to pull. Well the bracket finally broken. I banged on the hood while someone pulled on the cable with pliers and it popped up ! Don't forget to grease your latches!

You my friend, are a genius, can’t believe I was going to put my car into a garage that would have probably charged a fortune to repair this, I’ll buy you a virtual beer mate. 🍻🍻👊

Worked on an ML350 - UK. Driver's side lock was stuck. Wedged the release lever inside the car with some packers and less than a minute of tapping and moving the bonnet and it freed. Used some WD40 to get the latch moving freely, and then greased it up... works fine now

Update late 2015 E220 Bluetex (UK Right hand Drive): Latch was stuck in the sense that the OS of the bonnet (hood) was stuck and the NS would release. By having someone in the car waggling the release and on the outside repeatedly pressing down and releasing the bonnet over the latch that was stuck, eventually caused the catch to release. (About 3 or 4 minutes)

The two releases are directly in line with the very inner corner of the headlight lens covers.

The cable comes up the OS under the bonnet and splits into two sections, a short one to the OS catch and a longer one to the NS catch. You can open the cable splitter with a screwdriver and lubricate the inner cables as well as lubricate them from the catch end(s).

Another thing I noticed was that on release, the bonnet had only ever moved about half an inch or less (we have had the car from new) whereas the videos on youtube suggest a movement of more that one inch if not an inch and a half. This was caused by the long springs which are a few inches inboard of the catches. Lubricating these caused the bonnet to open an inch or so before the emergency latch caught. This is now much easier to release than before.

I was ready to take it in and have the latches and cable removed. Had my wife pull the release while I pushed on the hood a couple of times and it opened right up. Freed up the stuck passenger side latch with WD-40 and fixed within a couple of minutes. Thanks so much

What do you do if the mechanic shuts the hood after an oil change and when you get home, you look at your S430 from the front and the hood is crooked or looks bent. The driver side doesn’t look shut all the way. Is this because the hood latches get stuck, sticking out? Can’t believe the mechanic didn’t even care to notice!
